SAP EWM Update 2025 FPS01: More power for the warehouse with AI & automation!
The demands on modern warehouses are increasing rapidly: higher order volumes, increasing cost pressure and a shortage of skilled workers are forcing companies to make their logistics more efficient and flexible.
With the new release SAP S/4HANA 2025 FPS01 is also developing SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) consistently continuing – with a clear focus on automation, transparency and smarter decisions.
But what does that mean specifically for warehouse operations?
Predictive Labor Demand Planning
With Predictive Labour Demand Planning SAP uses a clear focus on one of the central topics in warehouse logistics: the optimal use of resources and employees.
Predictive Labor Demand Planning It uses historical warehouse data to predict future staffing needs in the warehouse. This allows companies to avoid bottlenecks, use resources efficiently, and optimize workload and staff scheduling based on data.
What has improved in warehouse operations:
1. Improved workload planning: Predictive Labor Demand Planning enables warehouse managers and shift supervisors to accurately predict future workloads based on historical data – e.g., at the level of warehouse orders, tasks, or outbound deliveries.
2. Optimized personnel deployment planning: The forecasts help to use personnel resources more efficiently, to identify bottlenecks early and to avoid overloads.
3. KPI transparency: With the integration into the Fiori app „Warehouse KPIs“, users can see all important key figures (duration, volume, weight, capacity utilization, number of items) at a glance and make data-based decisions.
4. Faster response times in the warehouse: Thanks to Joule integration, warehouse processes can be controlled interactively – from querying current outbound deliveries to directly triggering the next process steps.
5. Reduction of manual labor: Many tasks, such as creating and confirming tasks for already provided handling units, can be performed automatically, thus relieving employees of some of the burden.
AI Joules-Integration in the camp
With another feature „Talk to your Warehouse Outbound process“ SAP is further advancing AI integration in EWM.
In the future, users will be able to directly access information about outbound processes via a dialog-based interface and, in some cases, also initiate actions – for example, related to outbound marketing. Delivery Orders.
Your added value:
Daily warehouse operations become more efficient and transparent. Employees receive relevant information faster, can make more informed decisions, and initiate specific steps in the shipping process directly from the interface. This reduces errors, increases process speed, and improves resource utilization in the warehouse. Considering that Since user errors often lead to production losses, Joule integration helps to reduce such errors and make processes in the warehouse more efficient.
Advanced Shipping & Receiving
Who wouldn't want transport and warehouse logistics to work together seamlessly? To further optimize this integration, the current release brings the following new features. in the area Advanced Shipping & Receiving:
Ad hoc Loading carry out
With the current release, warehouse operators can outbound Delivery Assign orders directly to freight orders during the RF loading process. Once the first handling unit is scanned and loaded, all remaining HUs are automatically assigned. Ad-hoc Loading facilitates the loading of trucks, especially in busy warehouses or when additional cargo needs to be flexibly accommodated.
What this means for your warehouse operations:
- Faster and more efficient charging processes
- Reducing errors in the allocation of deliveries
- Flexibility for short-term changes or additional loads
- Better utilization of transport capacities and fewer empty runs
Warehouse-Driven Outbound Delivery Order Split
With the new "Warehouse-Driven Outbound Delivery Order Split" feature, warehouse and shipping staff can flexibly split outbound delivery orders based on the actual pick, pack, and staging status, or in case of operational exceptions. This allows available quantities to be shipped immediately, while remaining quantities are shipped later. Splits can be performed at the item or handling unit (HU) level and are supported up to the "Ready for Shipping" status, including consideration of the new freight units for transportation planning.
Your advantages:
- Greater flexibility in the event of urgent customer orders or stock shortages
- More efficient use of existing inventory and faster deliveries
- Reducing delays through operational exceptions
- Improved coordination between warehouse and transport planning
- Support for both classic and immediate loading processes
Suite integration
Seamless processes are the key to efficient logistics. With the Suite Integration in SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Private Edition 2025 FPS01, SAP ensures that warehousing, shipping, production, and other cloud solutions are tightly integrated. The goal is to optimize end-to-end processes along the entire supply chain, reduce manual work, and enable fast, transparent operations. This release therefore focuses on expanding functions that directly connect production, customer orders, returns management, and quality control with the warehouse.
JIT Supply-to-Customer (S2C)
Just-in-time processes are crucial for optimally coordinating production and logistics. Materials are provided precisely when they are needed – not earlier and not later.
The supply-to-customer (S2C) process views these processes from the supplier's perspective: Customers request products at a specific time, in a defined quantity, and to a specific delivery location. As soon as a corresponding order is received and the stock is available, the shipping process is automatically initiated.
With SAP S/4HANA 2025 FPS01 This process will be further simplified and more automated:
- Also Just-in-Sequence (JIS)Orders can be processed directly in the warehouse.
- After production and packaging, the system automatically creates the appropriate deliveries.
- This results in specific tasks for order picking and shipping within the warehouse.
- Goods that have already been provided can be processed automatically without additional manual steps.
What has improved in the warehousing process:
- Automated mapping of JIT and JIS orders in the warehouse
- Reduction of manual work steps and sources of error
- Faster processing of customer orders
- Greater transparency regarding handling units, pick tasks and warehouse movements
- Efficient use of storage resources and optimized production logistics
Quantity Correction Process in Advanced Returns Management (ARM)
After inspecting customer returns, the actual quantity inspected may differ from the originally recorded return quantity. The new "Goods Receipt Quantity Correction" feature (0023) allows these quantities to be corrected retroactively in the system. The corresponding outbound delivery is automatically transferred to EWM, warehouse tasks are created, and the goods issue for inventory correction is automatically posted. To use this feature, the BC set /SCWM/DLV_OUTBOUND_ARM_QC must be activated.
Your advantages in the returns process:
- Correct inventory levels despite discrepancies due to returns
- Fewer manual corrections in the warehouse process
- Greater transparency in returns management
Quality checks in outbound delivery orders
With the new integration of quality management into outbound processes, warehouse workers and quality inspectors can ensure that certain product characteristics (e.g., complete documentation) are checked before the goods leave the warehouse. A new indicator, "Relevant for Q-Inspection in Outbound," controls the inspection: The system blocks the goods issue posting if there are open inspection lots. This function applies to deliveries with or without a sales order, as well as general deliveries. Prerequisite: Activation of IoT 8 in EWM Customizing.
Benefits for your shipping processes:
- Ensuring product quality before shipping
- Avoiding incorrect deliveries and complaints
- Automated control reduces manual inspection efforts.
Continuous modernization & simplification
The latest release of SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Private Edition 2025 FPS01, improves efficiency and transparency in warehousing and production through enhanced functionality and an optimized user experience. Key highlights include:
Stock Transfer Orders with valued stocks in transit (SIT):
The current release also further optimizes internal material movements and production processes.
What has improved:
- Greater transparency in relocations:
Inventories located between two sites can now be better tracked and valued – both within a company and between different companies. - More precise material removal in production:
It is possible to precisely control which loading unit (handling unit) materials are taken from. This ensures that physical inventory and system inventory remain synchronized at all times.
Your added value:
- More efficient inventory and material movement through precise control of SIT deliveries
- Improved transparency and control over handling units and component consumption
- Reduction of manual steps and errors in warehousing and production processes
- Greater integration between physical inventory and system data for reliable planning.
